4.) What do I need to start? What should I bring to my lessons?

To start learning how to drive, you must meet the DVSA requirements. Detailed guidance on what is required can be found here.

Your driving instructor will need to see:

* Your provisional driving licence

* a printout of your driver record (which can be obtained here)

* We recommend bringing a bottle of still water with you for each lesson to stay hydrated

5.) What time will my lessons be and how long will they last?

Generally, we recommend taking time off work to complete your intensive driving course in Aberdeen, as driving for four hours each day can be exhausting. Depending on the nature of your work, you may find it manageable to return to work for half-days before or after sessions, but be aware that you might feel tired.

Lessons typically take place in the mornings or early afternoons, subject to your instructor’s availability. The lesson schedule is organised directly with the instructors, two weeks before the start date. If you require a specific schedule, please discuss this with us during the booking process. We will confirm whether the times you need are available before you book your course.

6.) Will there be a break?

Yes, there will be a break approximately halfway through your session. Your instructor will take you to a nearby location where you can get a drink, use the restroom, and take a short break. Typically, we stop at a local supermarket, such as Tesco or Asda.

7.) How does the course work?

As you start your intensive driving course in Aberdeen, your instructor will start your driving course in a quiet area to help you become accustomed to the car. You will be taught basic skills, such as moving off and stopping, as well as how to handle junctions. As you gain confidence and master the basics, your instructor will introduce more challenging subjects, including roundabouts, crossroads, and dual carriageways, among other important topics. After covering all the necessary subjects, your instructor will typically conduct a “mock test” to assess whether you are ready for the real driving test.

8.) Is the theory test included? How do I prepare for it?

The price of our course includes all study materials needed for the theory test. You will get access to the Highway Code, hazard perception videos and multiple choice questions – everything required to prepare for your theory test. However, the actual theory test fee of £23 is not included in the course price and needs to be booked separately (we will email you all the instructions upon course booking). The practical driving test fee is included in the course price, and we will handle the booking for you.

9.) How do I book my theory test?

Theory test dates are widely available and can be booked through the DVSA website. For convenience, after you book your course with us, we will send you an email with instructions on how to book your theory test. Simply follow the link, enter your provisional licence number, select a date and time, and make the payment of £23. We recommend booking your theory test no later than two weeks before the start of your intensive driving course in Aberdeen. This timing ensures that, if you do not pass on your first attempt, you have the opportunity to re-sit the test during the course.

10.) Do I need to pass my theory test before booking a course with you?

No, about half of our clients book their driving course and theory test at the same time. Since we typically have a waiting list of a couple of months for our courses, many use this time to pass the theory test before starting their intensive driving course in Aberdeen.

11.) Where do you sit theory test?

The theory test must be taken at a DVSA theory test centre. You can find the nearest one here.

12.) What if I fail my theory test?

If you fail your theory test, book another one as quickly as possible. Start your driving course as planned and complete the majority of your lessons. Depending on your progress and arrangements with your instructor, you can either save some hours from the course to use after you pass your theory test, or you can book additional lessons on a pay-as-you-go basis after the course.

13.) Do I get a discount if I have already passed my theory test?

Unfortunately, no discount is available if you have already passed your theory test, as the theory test fee of £23 is paid separately. We provide study materials regardless, which you can use to refresh your knowledge of the Highway Code during your course.

14.) Is the driving test included? When will my driving test be? What if I am not ready?

One driving test is included in the price of your intensive driving course in Aberdeen. We typically start organizing a driving test for you as soon as you pass your theory test and complete our driving test request form (instructions will be emailed upon course booking), aiming for a date around your course completion.

Currently, even though driving test waiting lists are quite long (it can be few months), we manage to secure these tests about 90% faster than the average waiting time. This usually means getting a driving test within one to two weeks of completing the course, although occasionally it may take slightly longer (very rarely, and if so, usually just an extra week or so).

Your driving instructor will usually conduct a mock test on the last day of your course. If you are ready, you will then proceed to your driving test. If not, you can request additional lessons (subject to availability) and move your driving test to a later date.

15.) How do you get driving tests so quickly?

Often, clients think we have priority access to booking tests. As much as we would love this to be possible, unfortunately, this is not the case. Searching for driving tests requires considerable time and effort.

You could do this yourself: log into the DVSA website and check it over 100 times a day for a few days or weeks until you find a test slot someone else has cancelled. This process, understandably, is very time-consuming and not feasible for many.

At our end, we have a dedicated staff member who continuously monitors the DVSA website for any available test slots. Once they find a suitable slot, they quickly reserve it for our clients. This method allows us to secure between 60-100 driving test slots per month. These slots are typically ones that others have booked but then cancelled. As a result, our clients often receive their driving test bookings rapidly, usually within one to two weeks of completing their course, though sometimes it may take a bit longer. This is a rare occurrence (and if it does happen, it usually means just an extra week or so).

We have nearly a decade of experience in securing driving tests in Aberdeen, and we are confident in our ability to find available slots efficiently.

16.) Is it a guaranteed pass?

While we cannot guarantee that you will pass your driving test due to various factors that can impact the outcome, we strive to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to pass. Many participants of the intensive driving course in Aberdeen have successfully passed their driving test, and we take great pride in their achievements.

To find our more about a guaranteed pass, please refer to our blog article Understanding “Guaranteed Pass” in Intensive Driving Courses.

17.) What is your pass rate?

As we offer a significant number of courses, we do not track and publish exact pass rates. However, we regularly share photos and testimonials of our successful clients on our Facebook page. We encourage you to visit our page to view their success stories and read about their experiences.

18.) What if I fail my driving test?

If you fail your driving test, you will need to re-book it at a cost of £62 and may consider booking additional lessons with your instructor on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Should you need assistance in securing another driving test date more quickly than the standard waiting list, our team can provide this service for you. This is charged at £199, in addition to the test fee.

19.) Which course should I choose?

We offer three intensive driving courses in Aberdeen with durations of 5, 7, and 10 days.

Here is an overview of each course to assist you in making a decision:

5-day course. This course, totaling 20 hours, is designed for intermediate clients who:

  • have taken at least 20 hours of driving lessons with a qualified instructor recently (e.g., within the last 6 months) and feel about halfway to being test-ready;
  • have engaged in extensive private practice, in a safe and legal way, (e.g., lessons with family) amounting to a minimum of 20 hours recently (e.g., within the last 6 months) and feel about halfway there;
  • have experience driving various vehicles (e.g. farm vehicles) on private land from a young age, are comfortable with car control, and just need experience on main roads;
  • had many driving lessons and have failed a driving test within the past 3 years;
  • were nearly ready to sit a driving test within the past 2-3 years;
  • have a car driving licence from abroad and are legally allowed to drive in the UK for some time (check DVSA guidance), but need to prepare for a UK Car Driving Test.

Participants in this course should be confident in fundamental car skills, including clutch control, gears, hill starts, negotiating easy junctions, maneuvering through easy roundabouts, and performing at least one of the maneuvers.

7-day course. With a total duration of 30 hours, this course is suitable for clients who:

  • have completed at least 10 hours of driving lessons with an approved instructor recently (e.g., within the last 6 months);
  • have undertaken at least 10 hours of private practice recently (e.g., within the last 6 months) and mastered the basics;
  • have taken a driving test within the past 4-10 years, but failed;
  • were nearly ready to sit a driving test within the past 4-10 years.

Participants in this course should have a grasp of basic skills, including basic clutch control, moving off and stopping, dealing with easy junctions, progressive braking, gears, and easy hill starts.

10-day course. This course is intended for individuals with little to no driving experience and includes a total of 40 hours.

The 10-day course is most suitable for clients who:

  • have no prior driving experience but are confident in their ability to learn quickly (note that 4 hours per day can be very exhausting, even with a break halfway through);
  • have taken some driving lessons, but still feel the need to start “from scratch”;
  • took a driving test many years ago, but would like to start “from scratch”;
  • were almost ready to sit a driving test, but it was many years ago, and they would like to start “from scratch”.

Who should not consider intensive courses:

Intensive driving courses in Aberdeen may not be suitable for clients who find learning to drive challenging and require more time to effectively grasp the concepts. In such cases, traditional lessons spread over a longer period might yield better results. It’s also important to note that intensive courses may not be the best choice for those who find it difficult to spend long durations in the car (around 4 hours per day). Although there is a break midway through the sessions, these courses demand considerable effort. Learning to drive intensively for extended periods can be physically and mentally exhausting. Furthermore, the rapid approach of the driving test may add to the time pressure, which can be daunting for some learners.

If still unsure, please refer to our blog article Intensive Driving Courses: Are They the Right Choice for You or give us a call on 01224 679 337.

20.) What is your cancellation policy ?

Ensuring that you can attend your chosen course before making a booking is important, as we start processing your booking as soon as you book.

We book the time with your instructor, offer you access to online study materials, and search for driving test dates. Therefore, if you decide to cancel, your booking fee is non-refundable. Any changes to your schedule must be approved by your driving instructor, otherwise, additional charges may apply.
