Get ready for an intensive driving course in the UK

Booking a crash course is one of the fastest ways to get your licence and gain the independence of driving. In just 5, 7, or 10 days (depending on previous experience), you can cover everything from the basics of moving off to advanced manoeuvres.

But because these courses pack months of training into just a few days, preparation for your intensive driving course in the UK is key. The better prepared you are before you begin, the more confident, focused, and successful you’ll be on the road.

Here are our top tips to help you get ready for your intensive driving lessons in the UK.

Find a trusted driving courses company

When booking a crash course in England or Scotland, it’s important to choose a company you can trust. A reliable company will always give you transparent information about what’s included, display a real UK phone number where you can speak to an actual person, and have a registered UK address. They should also work only with fully qualified Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs), ensuring you receive professional, DVSA-standard tuition.

Pass in Days follows all these standards and more. We’ve been organising intensive driving course in the UK for over a decade. With years of experience, we’re proud to organise crash courses in Scotland and England you can rely on. We are also proud to be rated as Excellent on Trustpilot.

Choose the right course

Which course should you choose? At Pass in Days, it all depends on how much driving experience you already have.

If you’ve had around 20 hours of experience in the past six months and feel halfway to test standard, the 5-day course (20 hrs overall) may be right for you.

If you’ve got about 10 hours of recent experience and know the basics but still need more time to build confidence, the 7-day course (30 hrs overall) could be a better fit.

And if you have no previous experience or haven’t driven in years, the 10-day course gives you 40 hours to learn everything from scratch.

Picking the right course isn’t just about time — it’s about matching your ability and experience. Do you need a refresher, a boost in confidence, or the full journey from beginner to test-ready? Choosing wisely will give you the best chance of success. If you have doubts, please refer to our FAQ or contact us!

Clear your schedule

An intensive course in the UK is exactly that—intensive. With courses organised by us, lessons usually start in the mornings or early afternoons, lasting to four hours per day with a short break in between.

We recommend taking time off work or college so you can fully commit. Think of it like exam week: your focus should be on learning, practising, and resting between lessons.

Brush up on your theory

Even if you’ve passed your theory test, revising beforehand will give you a head start. Spend some time on:

  • The Highway Code
  • Hazard perception videos
  • Online mock tests

This knowledge will make your practical lessons smoother, as you’ll already understand road signs, markings, and rules. If you book via Pass in Days, you will receive theory study materials as part of the package!

Sort out your documents early

Before you get behind the wheel, make sure all your paperwork is in order:

  • Provisional licence – You’ll need this for every lesson and your test.
  • Theory test – While at Pass in Days you don’t have to pass your theory test before starting the course, we strongly recommend completing it as soon as possible.
  • Booking confirmation – Keep your course details and instructor contact info handy.

Sleep, eat, drink water!

Being physically prepared is just as important as knowing the rules of the road. Make sure you’re well-rested before each lesson so your awareness and reaction times are at their best. Avoid alcohol or any substances that could affect your concentration, and don’t forget to stay hydrated. Bringing a bottle of water with you is always a good idea. Comfortable clothing and proper shoes with thin, flat soles will also make it easier to control the pedals and stay focused on your driving.

10-Day Course

(For beginners or those starting fresh)

Who would benefit most from this course?

This course is intended for individuals with little to no driving experience and includes a total of 40 hours.

The 10-day course is most suitable for clients who meet one of the following:

  • have no prior driving experience but are confident in their ability to learn quickly (note that 4 hours per day can be very exhausting, even with a break halfway through);
  • have taken driving lessons, but still feel the need to start “from scratch”;

Please note, learning to drive is a very individual process and you might need additional lessons after your course, if you are not safe & test ready.

Intensive driving courses are a great way to learn quickly, but they may not suit everyone. If you prefer a slower pace or find long sessions (around 4 hours a day) tiring, you might benefit more from regular lessons.

These courses require focus and energy, as the fast progress and upcoming test can feel demanding. However, with motivation and good concentration, many learners find them an excellent way to achieve success in a short time.

7-Day Course

(For those who know the basics)

Who would benefit most from this course?

With a total duration of 30 hours, this course is suitable for clients who meet one of the following:

  • have completed at least 10 hours of driving lessons with an approved instructor recently (e.g., within the last 6 months);
  • have undertaken at least 10 hours of private practice recently (e.g., within the last 6 months) and mastered the basics;
  • have taken a driving test within the past 4-10 years, but failed

Participants in this course should have a grasp of basic skills, including clutch control, moving off and stopping, dealing with easy junctions, progressive braking, gears, and easy hill starts.

Please note, learning to drive is a very individual process and you might need additional lessons after your course, if you are not safe & test ready.

5-Day Course

(for learners who are intermediate)

Who would benefit most from this course?

This course totaling 20 hours, is designed for intermediate clients who meet one of the following:

  • have taken at least 20 hours of driving lessons with a qualified instructor recently (e.g., within the last 6 months) and feel about halfway to being test-ready;
  • have engaged in extensive private practice in a safe and legal way (e.g., lessons with family) amounting to a minimum of 20 hours recently (e.g., within the last 6 months) and feel about halfway there;
  • have experience driving various vehicles (e.g. farm vehicles) on private land from a young age, are comfortable with car control, and just need experience on main roads;
  • had many driving lessons and have failed a driving test within the past 3 years;
